An ardent sailor, his memberships included the Sachems Head Yacht Club, the Guilford Yacht Club, the Guilford Boat Owners Association, the St. Petersburg Yacht Club and the Cruising Club of America. He also served as a member of the Guilford Marina Commission. He was a lifelong skier and a former president of the Ski Club Schussverein in Glen, NH.

He leaves his daughters, Laura Clapp Davidson (Eric) of Guilford and Anna Harris Ciccone (Peter) of West Hartford, his sister, Janet Clapp Mortensen of Harrisonburg, Virginia, his grandchildren, Jacob Peter and Quinn Bailey Ciccone and Elizabeth Grace and Blake Anne Davidson. He was predeceased by his parents, Roger and Betty Clapp and by his brother, Peter Clapp.
